Patti LaBelle is ready to shake things up at the hottest club around! The two-time Grammy winner is After Midnight’s latest “Special Guest Star” vocalist, beginning performances on June 10. LaBelle will jazz up the Brooks Atkinson Theatre through June 29. She takes over for original cast member Fantasia Barrino, who returned to the show last month.
LaBelle’s numerous albums and hit songs include “On My Own,” “New Attitude” and “Lady Marmalade.” She has previously appeared on the Great White Way in Fela!, Your Arms Too Short to Box With God and Patti LaBelle on Broadway. Additionally, the singer and actress starred in the Los Angeles run of Chicago as Mama Morton.
Conceived by Jack Viertel and directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight is an evocative new musical that tackles the sexy, smoky glamour of the Jazz Age, set in the heyday of Duke Ellington’s years at Harlem’s Cotton Club. In addition to LaBelle, the show currently stars Tony winner Adriane Lenox and Dule Hill. This summer, Gladys Knight and Natalie Cole will also join the roster of special guest star vocalists.
